There are benefits to having a massage:

  • Massage reduces stress & increases relaxation

  • Massage can reduce pain, muscle soreness and tension, but does not stabilize a broken bone.

  • Massage can improve circulation, lower heart rate and blood pressure. It is not recommended in times of infection, bleeding disorders or during times or very low platelet count.

  • Massage can improve the immune function of the body.

Getting imaging would be appropriate if you suspect a broken bone, internal injury, have unexplained pain of inflammation.

There are situations where it is not a good idea to get a massage.  If you are having a fever, rash, sick, have severe sunburn or in a recent auto accident, it would not be a good idea to get a massage without medical advice and/or imaging. Do you have pain and inflammation? Are you on medications that a massage therapist or technician should know about? If you have pins, staples, artificial joints the person seeing you may need to know to alter techniques or how they would handle your case. Medical Thermography may help your decision making.

Inflammation seen in a thermography image can be seen as excessive heat (red & white) or a nerve compression as cold patterns (blue, purple & black). In the above back thermography image note the zones or dermatome patterns on the body. This information is helpful for the client, massage therapists, chiropractors and other alternative therapies to choose a plan to help the body heal itself. Medical thermography uses no radiation or compression of the tissue.  The report can help you see your healing progress. Your images are viewed by 3 different pairs of eyes before your medical report is issued.
