A Mother/Child Connection

Ever hear of “mother-fetal micro chimerism”? This is when a woman is pregnant and some of the baby cells migrate into the women’s bloodstream and return to the baby.

This cell mixing and circulating back and forth happens for approximately 41 weeks, creating or leaving a permanent imprint in the tissues, bones, brain and skin of both women and baby. From what I read, the pregnancy does not need to be full term and begins happening as cells are developing.

Research has shown fetal cells will rush to the injury site in the pregnant person and transform into different types of cells that specialize in repairing the body. It’s amazing how a woman’s body can protect her baby at all costs, and how a baby can protect and rebuild the mother in return. Development and survival are both important.  Relationship and bonding happen in many ways and it’s a beautiful thing.
